Summer Holidays from Birmingham
Big beach days, Greek island coves, Turkish resort hotels and historic coastal cities all start at BHX. Find the destination and the actual resort that suit your summer, then compare the departures that fit your dates.

One airport, six very different summer holidays
From Birmingham Airport, a week in Corfu, Antalya, Split, Rhodes, Paphos or Mallorca can look equally sunny in a brochure. Yet they solve different holiday problems. You might want a hotel with waterslides and everything included, a sandy beach you can walk to, a base for visiting ancient sites, or a quiet harbour with good restaurants and no hire car.
Our Birmingham approach: choose the experience and resort first, then judge the real journey from home to hotel. A lower headline price is little comfort if your family faces a lengthy coach transfer, the beach is over a steep hill or a supposedly relaxing week requires expensive taxis. For a broader view of the season, see our guide to the best months for a European beach holiday.
TripsByDate was designed to make discovery quicker. Choose Birmingham and browse advertised package holidays by departure date, in a feed rather than repeatedly completing destination-first forms. That lets you discover destinations you had not considered, compare different departure days and return for a quick look when your plans change. It covers participating operators, not every holiday on the market, and final prices and availability must always be confirmed with the provider.

These Birmingham departures are deliberately not restricted to summer or the six featured places. You may spot another country or a better date. Check the listed travel month, duration, hotel and advertised price basis before following a deal. The live provider is responsible for confirming the final offer.

Corfu: the coastline matters more than the island's reputation
Corfu can suit both a quiet family week and a holiday full of boat trips, but the coast you choose changes the experience. The official Greek tourism beach guide distinguishes sheltered coves on the north-east, sandy shallow-water choices in the south-west and other beaches with different levels of facilities. Do not assume the photograph of a turquoise cove represents the beach beside your hotel.
Match the place to the people: Acharavi and Roda can appeal to travellers seeking a more laid-back northern beach base; the Dassia and Ipsos area has easier access to the east-coast holiday corridor, though individual hotels and nightlife differ. Paleokastritsa is scenery-focused, with coves and boat trips, but its beaches and approaches may be less convenient for pushchairs or people who prefer a long level promenade. Corfu Town is a lovely cultural day out rather than necessarily the best base for a pool-led family holiday.
Less obvious tip: look carefully at the last part of a beach journey. A map may show your hotel only a few hundred metres from the water, yet the route may include a hill or busy road. Ask whether the beach is sand or pebbles and whether boat excursions leave from the bay itself. The official Corfu destination guide gives wider island context. A perfect destination is no substitute for a convenient base.
Antalya: make the all-inclusive decision before you choose the hotel
Antalya is often sold as one resort destination, but the airport serves a wide coastal region. Antalya city is useful if you want restaurants, the old harbour and time exploring Kaleiçi; Lara is known for larger beachfront resort hotels; Belek can appeal to travellers prioritising hotel facilities or golf; Side combines resort areas with a historic town. These are different styles of holiday, and the drive from the airport will not be the same for every hotel.
What an all-inclusive label does not tell you: whether à la carte restaurants require reservations, whether branded drinks or a la carte meals carry extra charges, whether the waterpark is open every day, whether children's activities suit your children's ages and whether imported drinks are included. The differences between two apparently similar five-star resorts can be greater than the difference between the countries you are comparing.
Summer in southern Türkiye can be very hot. For families with young children, look for shaded play areas, midday indoor options and sensible walking distances between the room, pool and dining facilities. A resort a little farther from the beach may offer more pools and facilities than a small beachfront hotel. Read the exact room description before treating them as equivalent.
Extra research idea: check whether your chosen Antalya-area hotel is suited to independent sightseeing or mostly designed to keep guests on site. If you intend to visit the old town, archaeological sites or local markets, factor in the return transport. Use Türkiye's official tourism site for further destination ideas and GOV.UK travel advice for current entry and safety information.
Split: Croatia without pretending every holiday is a beach resort
Split's biggest attraction is the mixture of historic city life and access to the Dalmatian coast and islands. You can spend mornings exploring the old centre around Diocletian's Palace, evenings eating by the waterfront and a day at a nearby beach or on a boat. But Split is a working city with different kinds of shore, not a single strip of sandy resort hotels.
Important distinction: a package advertised as “Split” could mean a stay in the city or on a stretch of coast beyond it. Trogir, Kaštela and other nearby coastal bases each offer different transport and evening options. If you want to wander out for dinner without planning a taxi, check the exact address and walking conditions. Also check whether the beach is shingle, stone or a platform rather than assuming sand.
The unusual planning trap: an island day trip looks effortless on a map, but the ferry or catamaran departure point, timetable and return service determine whether it works. Vehicle ferries and fast passenger services are not interchangeable; weather can affect journeys. For a day trip to an island, plan the return leg first and check schedules with Jadrolinija or the relevant operator. A trip with only three or four nights needs a different itinerary from a two-week visit.
If you're comparing a shorter coastal break instead, our weekend breaks from Birmingham guide covers planning around fewer available days.

Rhodes: history and pool time can coexist if you choose a sensible base
Rhodes suits travellers who want Mediterranean beaches with a strong sense of place. The UNESCO-listed medieval city of Rhodes is a real reason to leave the sun lounger, while Lindos offers an exceptional historic setting. But visiting hilltop sites in high summer requires planning for heat, shade and plenty of water.
Rhodes Town makes sense for people who enjoy evenings out and independent exploring. Faliraki is an established resort area with extensive beach and entertainment options, although the atmosphere varies by street and hotel. Lindos is beautiful, but its steep lanes and hillside setting are a poor fit for someone who needs flat access. Resort hotels farther from the old centres may be the better choice for a restful pool holiday.
Practical summer tip: winds and waves can differ across the island. If easy sea swimming is important, examine the specific hotel's beach, any prevailing winds and whether sunbeds are on sand or pebbles. If you're booking primarily for a historical visit, pick early morning or later afternoon slots where available rather than assuming a midday excursion will be pleasant.
Paphos: a good Cyprus base, but find out what “near the sea” means
Paphos can reward travellers who want archaeology, coastal walks, cafés and a hotel with a pool. The UNESCO-listed Paphos archaeological sites provide a serious cultural attraction rather than an afterthought to the beach. It is also a starting point for exploring western Cyprus, although not every scenic area is easily reached without a car or organised excursion.
Choose the hotel carefully: the Paphos region includes waterfront hotels, inland properties and quieter locations beyond the central harbour. A sea view does not necessarily mean a sandy or easily swimmable beach: some stretches have rocky shorelines or access steps. Families seeking shallow sandy swimming should research named beaches and the transport needed to reach them rather than assuming the entire coast is alike.
Summer comfort: Cyprus can be intensely hot in July and August. Decide whether you plan to explore archaeological sites, spend most days beside a shaded pool or combine the two. Book sightseeing for cooler hours where practical. If you want a slightly different seasonal balance, our family holiday timing guide looks beyond the peak summer weeks.
Mallorca: the family beach question is surprisingly specific
All Mallorca flights may arrive at Palma Airport, yet not every resort delivers the same summer. Palma is best treated as a city-and-coast option, with culture, markets and restaurants. For a traditional family beach holiday, the Alcúdia and Playa de Muro area deserves consideration. Official Balearic tourism describes Playa de Muro as a long sandy beach with several distinct sections, including a protected natural area. That matters because a hotel close to one end is not necessarily close to the same services as one at the other.
The important trade-off: a hotel on a quiet stretch of coast can be excellent for sea and pool time, but less useful if everyone wants lively evenings, independent dining or nearby supermarkets. On the other hand, a more central resort may have a busy road between the accommodation and the beach. Look at the route on a map, check recent photos and compare family-room layouts before paying more for the word “beachfront”.
Another worthwhile detail: a large stretch of sandy beach is not automatically a guarantee of safe swimming every day. Look for lifeguarded sections where available, heed local flags and check sea conditions. You can browse our guide to when to visit Spain for shoulder-season alternatives if you are not tied to the school holidays.
Don't ignore Birmingham's less obvious summer choices
BHX offers more than the six destinations in the artwork. Birmingham Airport's published summer programmes also feature Greek destinations such as Samos, Kefalonia and the two main Crete airports, as well as options including Preveza and Sicily. Published routes tell you what has been announced, not whether an operator has a suitable package for your exact dates. Use the airport's destination directory to research routes, then check dates and availability.
One particularly interesting alternative is Meganisi, which has been offered in Birmingham's 2026 programme via Preveza with ferry and shuttle transfers included in specified Jet2holidays packages. That's a reminder that airport-to-hotel travel can include a boat. It can be worth the extra journey for a quieter island stay, but it is not what you'd choose for a rushed three-night escape. Read the airport's original summer programme announcement for the dated details and confirm what is operating for your travel year.

Explore holidays by dateJune, July, August or September: the right choice depends on the people travelling
- June: often worth considering for warm weather, longer days and a less frantic resort atmosphere before many school holidays. Sea temperatures, hotel openings and prices vary by destination.
- July: a popular high-summer choice, particularly for families, but Southern European heat can limit comfortable afternoon sightseeing. Check dates against your local school calendar.
- August: peak demand in many resort areas. Prioritise shade, air conditioning, facilities and beach access; a cheap hotel without these can be a false economy.
- September: can be attractive to adults not restricted by term dates, with warmer sea water in many destinations and a calmer pace in some resorts. Do not assume every operator or children's activity continues unchanged all month.
For more on comparing travel dates, read how to fit holidays around annual leave and how seasonal demand changes availability. The best-value week is a result of your actual options, not a rule that the first or last week of a month is always cheapest.
A Birmingham-specific checklist that can save your first and last holiday days
Getting to BHX from Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull or farther afield
Birmingham Airport is connected to Birmingham International railway station by the free Air-Rail Link. The airport publishes normal operating hours of 03:30 to 00:30; check the actual plan if your flight lands very late or departs very early. For travellers from central Birmingham and Coventry, the rail route may be simpler than arranging a car, while people travelling from Wolverhampton, Warwickshire or Worcestershire should compare real journey times and any rail connections, not merely the distance on a map. See the airport's official railway and Air-Rail Link advice.
Useful test: work backwards from your required terminal arrival time, including the first available train, connection time and the transfer from Birmingham International. On the return, check the last train before committing to an appealing late-night flight. If driving, compare the whole stay's parking price and the time needed to reach the terminal from your car park.
Day-before bag drop can be more valuable than faster security
Birmingham Airport has published a day-before bag-drop option for eligible morning Jet2, easyJet and TUI flights, subject to the airline's current eligibility and operating arrangements. For a family with several cases, that could make an early departure more manageable. It does not replace check-in deadlines, and it is not automatically available to everyone. Check the airport's published advice and your airline before travelling.
Liquids, hand luggage and the return airport
Birmingham's current security guidance allows liquids in individual containers up to 2 litres through security, with liquids and electronics generally remaining in hand luggage. Insulated bottles must be empty at screening. But your return airport may have different rules, and airlines set their own bag dimensions and allowances. Don't assume what gets through BHX automatically gets through Antalya, Corfu or Palma on the way home.
How to tell whether a summer package is genuinely good value
For a family travelling from Birmingham, compare the price of the entire holiday rather than a per-person headline. Add the actual room configuration, hold luggage, seats if you need them, airport transport, transfers overseas, local taxes and meals not covered by your board basis. In a hot destination, decent air conditioning and a reliably usable pool can matter more than a room's decorative star rating.
Try an alternative length: seven nights is the obvious default, but a five-night or ten-night break can sometimes work better with departure patterns and time off. That does not mean it will always cost less. Use TripsByDate to compare advertised departures around your free dates, and verify the complete package with the provider. For the wider decision, see package holidays versus separate flights and hotels.
Compare transfer stress as well as price: when you have very young children, mobility needs or a late arrival, a straightforward resort transfer could justify a higher price. For a couple planning to explore independently, a hotel near a town centre and bus stop may offer better value than an isolated all-inclusive. Neither is automatically best.
Before booking: five checks worth saving
- Exact place: identify the actual hotel, resort, coastline and arrival airport rather than the country or city in the listing headline.
- Summer comfort: check shade, air conditioning, child-appropriate facilities, beach access, pool rules and recent guest photos.
- Usable travel time: compare outbound and return flight times, transfer length and the journey between home and BHX.
- Complete cost: compare board basis, baggage, room occupancy, resort taxes, transport and booking terms like for like.
- Documents and protection: check GOV.UK destination advice and any applicable ATOL protection. Travel insurance covers different risks.
Frequently asked questions about summer holidays from Birmingham
Where can I go for a family summer holiday from Birmingham?
Corfu, Rhodes, Antalya-area resorts, parts of Mallorca and Paphos all offer family holiday possibilities, but there is no universally best destination. Choose by your children's ages, hotel facilities, beach accessibility, transfer and heat tolerance. A well-chosen individual resort matters more than an island-wide label.
Is Antalya or Corfu better for an all-inclusive week?
Antalya's resort coast has a strong concentration of large all-inclusive hotels, making it worth comparing if extensive on-site facilities are the priority. Corfu may appeal more if you're keen on small beaches, local tavernas and varied exploring, although it has resort packages too. Compare the actual hotels and inclusions, not stereotypes about either country.
Is Split a beach holiday or a city break?
It can be either, or a mixture. Split itself is a historic city with access to several beaches and nearby islands. If you want a straightforward traditional resort, look closely at the location of the accommodation rather than choosing from the destination name alone.
Are June and September always cheaper than August?
No. Demand often differs between school-holiday and term-time weeks, but prices also depend on airline capacity, hotel choice, day of departure and package availability. Compare exact dates instead of expecting one particular month always to be cheapest.
Do the featured listings show only summer destinations?
No. The Birmingham packages above are deliberately broad and arranged by departure date, so they can include other seasons and destinations. The six summer ideas are inspiration, not a filter or a guarantee of currently available deals.
Is Birmingham Airport easy to reach by train?
It can be, especially with a suitable connection into Birmingham International station. From there the free Air-Rail Link normally runs between 03:30 and 00:30. Check first and last trains and current airport arrangements for your actual travel date.
