SKI HOLIDAY PACKAGES AND BOOKING
What Is Usually Included in a Ski Package Holiday?
A ski package usually bundles accommodation with travel or another significant part of the trip — but it does not automatically include everything you need on the mountain. Find out what to look for, then browse ski holiday offers on TripsByDate by airport and departure date before checking the exact inclusions with the operator.
What does a typical ski package holiday include?
For many UK travellers, a familiar ski package combines return flights and accommodation. Some operators also include airport-to-resort transfers; others offer accommodation-only packages, rail-based arrangements or a choice of whether to add transport. There is no single universal list of inclusions.
Even two holidays to the same resort on the same date can come with different arrangements. One may include a checked bag and coach transfer, while another adds charges for both. Another may bundle lessons or a lift pass. That is why the supplier's actual booking details matter more than the word package in an advert.
For a real-world illustration, the Ski Club of Great Britain's Ski & Spa holiday lists group flights, transfers and half-board accommodation among its inclusions, but identifies lift passes and ski/boot hire as additional costs. Other Ski Club holidays have different arrangements.
Quick checklist: what is included, optional or usually extra?
- Accommodation: normally part of a ski accommodation package; verify the room type, number of nights and board basis.
- Flights or other transport: included in a flight-inclusive package, but not in every ski holiday sold as a package.
- Airport transfers: sometimes included, sometimes separately priced; check both directions.
- Baggage and ski carriage: allowances and charges depend on airline and operator; skis often require special arrangements.
- Lift passes: commonly an extra or an optional add-on, unless explicitly included.
- Ski or snowboard equipment: frequently hired separately, sometimes available as an add-on.
- Lessons: not automatically included; some specialist or beginner packages bundle tuition.
- Meals: room-only, bed-and-breakfast, half-board and chalet board offer very different value.
- Winter sports insurance: normally something you must arrange and check separately.
- Local expenses: resort taxes, ski buses, lunches and optional activities may be additional.
Our existing guide to the extras to check before booking a cheap ski holiday explores these expenses in more detail. It is particularly helpful when a low advertised package price looks almost too good to be true.
Are flights always included in a ski package?
No. A flight-inclusive holiday is a common arrangement for UK skiers, but you can also find accommodation-led or specialist ski packages where you arrange travel yourself. The Ski Club's Premier Party example includes accommodation, group transfers and instruction but excludes flights. The specific contract tells you what you are purchasing.
If flights are included, check the UK airport, travel dates, flight times, hand and hold baggage and whether transporting skis costs extra. A cheap headline price can look less attractive if you need to pay for extra luggage or lose a useful skiing day to inconvenient flight times.
Do ski packages include transfers to the resort?
Sometimes. Some flight-and-hotel packages include shared coach transfers to the resort, while others charge for transfers or leave you to organise your own. For mountain holidays this detail is more important than it may be for a city break: the destination airport can be a substantial journey from the ski village.
Ask whether transfers run in both directions, whether they are shared or private, how long they take and where they drop you off. Check any separate charges for children, equipment or late arrivals. For a short ski break, a long transfer can make a big difference to your time on the slopes. Our short ski break resort guide explains why easy access matters.
Are lift passes, ski equipment and lessons included?
Do not assume they are. These are three of the biggest costs beyond travel and accommodation. Operators may sell them as optional extras, as part of a special offer or in a genuinely inclusive ski arrangement. Beginner holidays can be especially difficult to compare because one price might include tuition while another excludes it entirely.
The Ski Club's holiday information explicitly distinguishes what its trips include from separately payable lift passes, hire, meals and insurance. When comparing your own offers, write down the pass duration, whether the hire includes boots and helmet, and how many lesson hours you are getting.
See our guide to ski passes and complete first ski holiday guide before deciding which extras are essential for your group.
What about accommodation and meals?
Two ski packages with the same length of stay may offer very different accommodation. A self-catering apartment can be ideal for families or groups who want to prepare food; a hotel on half-board may save the trouble of finding an evening meal. Chalet board can have its own meal schedule and staff days off, so inspect the actual description.
Check the distance to the lifts, ski-school meeting point and resort centre. A cheaper room a long distance away may require daily transport. If travelling with children or non-skiers, the location and facilities can be just as important as the room rate. Our family ski resort guide can help you judge the wider destination.
Does a ski package include ATOL protection?
For a UK-booked, flight-inclusive package, check that the relevant organiser provides ATOL protection and issues an ATOL Certificate. ATOL protects covered bookings if an ATOL holder fails; it is not insurance for skiing accidents, medical bills or personal belongings. Not every package involves flights, so do not assume every ski package uses ATOL.
The official ATOL explanation from the UK Civil Aviation Authority sets out what the scheme covers and what certificate to expect. For the difference between a package and building the trip yourself, read our ski package versus separate-booking comparison.
How do you compare packages when each operator includes different things?
Begin by comparing packages that fit your available dates, then build the total cost of the holidays you like. For each one, compare the operator's final price for your actual party plus any essentials that are missing: baggage, transfers, lift passes, equipment, lessons, meals and suitable insurance.
A package with more items included is not automatically better value. You may not need lessons, for example, or you may bring your own skis. Conversely, the cheapest flight-and-hotel offer might become the most expensive after the essentials are added. Our checklist for comparing ski package deals and ski holiday cost guide can help you make a fair comparison.
Why start with TripsByDate before reading all the small print?
Because your first challenge is finding the holidays worth comparing. Traditional searches can make you decide on a destination or resort before you know which deals are available for the days you can travel. TripsByDate starts with your airport and departure date instead.
- Choose your departure airport once. TripsByDate remembers it for future visits.
- Select when you can travel. Browse package listings for that day, organised by advertised price.
- Flick forwards or backwards. Compare neighbouring dates without repeating a long search form.
- Keep an open mind. View different destinations and holiday lengths together, use the map and save promising offers in favourites.
- Click through to the actual operator. Read what is included, confirm availability and the final payable price, and make the booking with the supplier.
TripsByDate brings together holiday listings from providers represented on the website; it does not claim to list every ski holiday in the market. Nor does a listing on TripsByDate guarantee particular ski extras are included. Its job is to make the discovery and initial comparison easier, so you can concentrate on the operator details for the holidays you actually like.
Questions to ask before you book
- Exactly which travel and accommodation services does the advertised price cover?
- Is the price per person, per room or for the entire party?
- Are transfers, checked luggage and ski carriage included?
- What do lift passes, hire and lessons cost for each traveller?
- Which meals are provided, and are there local taxes or resort charges?
- What are the payment, amendment and cancellation conditions?
- Who is the booking organiser, and what financial protection applies?
For broader context on how package holidays compare with flight-only bookings, read the official ATOL package-versus-flight-only guide.
The simplest way to begin your ski holiday search
The right ski package is not necessarily the one with the longest list of inclusions. It is the one that provides the accommodation, travel and skiing arrangements you need at a sensible total price. Use TripsByDate to discover the possibilities quickly, then use the operator's full details to make the final decision.
