Last-Minute Holidays from East Midlands
A free weekend or a few days off? Compare departures from East Midlands Airport, discover city and sunshine breaks and plan your journey with confidence.

A few days free and no destination fixed? East Midlands Airport can be a useful starting point for a spontaneous escape. You might find a weekend exploring Prague, three nights of tapas in Malaga, or a few days near the Algarve's beaches. Rather than choosing a place and hoping a suitable departure exists, start with the dates you can leave from East Midlands (EMA).
On TripsByDate, select East Midlands Airport and browse holidays by departure date. Scroll through advertised packages from different providers, compare destinations and open the ones that catch your eye. It is a quicker, more visual way to discover possibilities than completing a separate destination-first search for every place. TripsByDate is a comparison and discovery site, not the travel operator: always confirm availability, inclusions and the final price on the provider's booking page.
Your five-minute East Midlands last-minute search
- Choose EMA and start with your available days. Check adjacent departures, particularly when you can leave midweek instead of only Friday or Saturday.
- Decide whether you want a quick city break or real beach time. A three-night Prague escape is not the same holiday as five nights in Majorca. Compare the experience, not just the advertised price.
- Keep the destination flexible. Browse Malaga, Alicante, Palma, Faro, Prague and other available options, rather than repeating a search for one resort.
- Open promising offers and inspect the details. Check inbound and outbound flight times, room type, meals, baggage, transfer times and cancellation terms.
- Price the journey from home. East Midlands is a drive or bus journey for many travellers: getting there, parking and late-night returns can change the overall cost.

Good last-minute holiday ideas from East Midlands
Palma and Majorca: choose the right sort of short break
Palma works for travellers who want restaurants, a historic centre and a seafront city without spending much of a short stay travelling around the island. The wider island of Majorca suits beach holidays, but a hotel in Alcudia or another resort is not a Palma city break. The distance between airport and accommodation matters enormously on a two-to-four-night trip.
Do this before booking: compare central Palma hotels with resort packages, and inspect the transfer or hire-car cost. If you want a beach day as well as city exploring, check which beach is actually close to your accommodation. Start with official Balearic Islands tourism information.

Faro: find the right Algarve base, not just the lowest room price
Faro Airport is the gateway to a stretch of coast with very different holiday bases. Faro city and the Ria Formosa suit culture, food and nature; Albufeira is a more conventional resort choice; and Lagos is farther west. A cheaper hotel can become a poor last-minute choice when you add an awkward late-night transfer.
Best quick check: look at the arrival time, onward transport and proximity to the things you actually plan to do. For a short break, avoid using half a day travelling to and from a distant resort. See Visit Algarve's official guide.
Prague and Budapest: two very different city escapes
Prague offers walkable historic quarters, bridges and riverside views. Budapest has the Danube, lively neighbourhoods and thermal baths. Both are enjoyable outside classic summer beach weather, which makes them useful comparison candidates when a spontaneous coastal package is either unavailable or poor value.
Short-stay trick: choose a hotel based on the main sights and your flight times, not simply its advertised star rating. With only two full days, a walkable location can save both money and travel time. See Prague's official tourism site and Budapest's tourism information.
Malaga and Alicante: city facilities plus sunshine potential
Malaga is a strong city-and-coast combination: historic streets, museums, restaurants and a beach all fit into a compact itinerary. Alicante has an accessible old town, urban beach and a castle above the city. Either can make a rewarding escape without booking a full resort holiday, particularly when outdoor sightseeing is the real aim.
Check the label: a Costa del Sol or Costa Blanca package can be based far from Malaga or Alicante itself. For a short notice getaway, calculate the actual hotel-to-airport journey and decide whether you want a city hotel or resort. Spain's official travel portal has destination guidance.
The destinations in the two images are ideas, not a live availability promise. They include both sets of suggestions from the artwork: Palma, Faro, Prague, Malaga, Alicante and Budapest. The airport's official destination directory lists routes, but a listed destination does not establish that a suitable flight or package will depart on your chosen day.
East Midlands Airport: local details that can save time and money
Skylink buses are worth comparing with parking
The airport's bus station is next to the terminal. Official guidance describes Skylink links serving Derby, Leicester, Loughborough and Nottingham, with other routes serving nearby towns. Some services run overnight, though frequency and journey time depend on the route and day. Compare return bus fares for your party with parking, fuel and a taxi before assuming the car is cheapest.
Check East Midlands Airport's bus guide and your bus operator's timetable for both your departure and return. A late return flight matters more than the convenient outbound service.
There is no railway station inside the terminal
East Midlands Parkway is a separate railway station, not an airport terminal stop. You need onward ground transport. For rail travellers, compare the full rail-plus-bus or taxi cost and connection times with a direct bus from Derby, Nottingham or Leicester. Do not book a tight connection based on the similar station name.
Free pick-up/drop-off versus the rapid terminal lane
The airport provides up to 60 minutes free at Long Stay 2 for pick-ups and drop-offs, subject to its terms and availability. It is a roughly 15-to-20-minute walk from the terminal. A shuttle may operate seasonally, but the airport says it does not run between 1 November and 31 March. If you have luggage or mobility needs, factor the walk in before choosing the free option.
The Rapid Drop Off zone is next to the terminal and is chargeable. It uses a barrierless payment system: check the charge and the payment deadline before using it, and never stop on unauthorised airport roads. See the official pick-up and drop-off guidance. Charges can change, so the live airport page takes priority over any article or graphic.
Security: do not copy another airport's liquid rules
East Midlands Airport's published security instructions currently allow liquid containers under 100ml in hand luggage, and say permitted liquids and electronic devices can remain in the bag during screening. They also explain medical and baby-food exceptions. Different airports, including your return airport, may have different procedures. Read the official EMA security advice before packing; it is more reliable than a general social-media travel tip.
Travelling as a family or needing help?
With a last-minute booking, confirm the number of passengers and permitted child ages before paying. Check cot requests, family seating, infant baggage and any hotel transfer that needs child seats. If assistance is required, tell the airline or holiday provider as early as possible and confirm arrangements with East Midlands Airport's assistance service.

Browse EMA holidaysHow to recognise a genuinely good last-minute deal
- Compare the cost of the whole trip. Add the package price, luggage, airport journey, parking, destination transfers, meals and any hotel extras. A cheap headline price is not necessarily a cheap holiday.
- Look at the actual hours abroad. A four-night stay with a late landing and early departure may offer fewer usable days than a three-night trip with better flight times.
- Check the package against separate bookings. Flight-and-hotel packages can be convenient, but sometimes the separately booked alternative fits better. Compare on a like-for-like basis and understand the protection attached to each booking.
- Use nearby dates to find a better fit. A one-day shift may change the available hotels and flight times, not just the cost.
- Pack light only if the actual baggage allowance works. Different airlines and fares include different bag sizes and weights. Pay for necessary luggage before checking out.
- Check practical opening hours. Pools, seasonal attractions, resort restaurants and transport may operate differently outside peak season.
- Do not book under pressure without checking terms. Confirm the lead traveller's details, passport requirements, cancellation rules and who you are buying from. For UK package holidays, understand ATOL protection.
Before you click book: East Midlands quick checklist
- Confirm the booking leaves from East Midlands (EMA), not Birmingham or another regional airport.
- Check your passport and the destination's official UK travel advice, including entry and passport-validity requirements.
- Read the operator's final price, payment conditions and any baggage charges.
- Check the airport's live travel information, and allow enough time for check-in and security.
- Work out your return journey from EMA, especially if you arrive home late at night.
- Confirm travel insurance begins when you need it and covers the trip you are taking.
Frequently asked questions
Can I find a last-minute holiday leaving East Midlands tomorrow?
Possibly, but it depends on live seats, hotel availability, package booking deadlines and your documents. Search your available departure dates on TripsByDate and confirm any suitable offer directly with the provider.
Are last-minute holidays from East Midlands always cheaper?
No. Prices respond to demand, flight capacity and available accommodation. Some unsold inventory may be good value, while school holidays and popular routes can be expensive even close to departure. Compare across dates and destinations.
What's the simplest way to get to EMA without a car?
For many people in the region, Skylink is worth checking first. Services connect major cities and towns with the airport's adjacent bus station. Always check the exact timetable for your flight, including late-night returns.
Does East Midlands Airport have a railway station?
No railway platform is inside the airport terminal. East Midlands Parkway is separate and requires onward transport.
Is it free to drop someone off at East Midlands Airport?
The airport offers a free waiting/drop-off option in Long Stay 2 for up to an hour, subject to its current conditions. The terminal-side Rapid Drop Off is paid. Long Stay 2 is not immediately beside the terminal, and its shuttle service is seasonal.
Are the listings displayed on this page all last-minute deals?
No. The embedded sample is filtered by departure airport, not automatically by how soon a trip leaves. Use the homepage date browser to find genuinely imminent holidays.
